Yves Lawson, who works as a Technology Consultant with Deloitte Consultants, remembers his presentation on Environment-aware GPS at a CSTEP statewide conference while he was with the Opportunity Programs. He won the second prize for his work. This is not surprising considering he has always been a ‘gadget’ person. He did his 5-year dual degree in Computer Engineering from NYU. “The first year was very challenging academically. I was very grateful for the tutoring and academic help I got
from the Opportunity Programs. I would encourage freshman to use every
resource at their disposal at the Program. They are lucky to have them,”
Lawson says.
If there is anything CSTEP star alumnus Jonathan Reid loves more than learning, it is sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for science with others. During his time as an undergraduate at NYU, Jonathan sought out every opportunity he could to mentor incoming students about their adjustment to college life and studies. His passion for helping, however, extended beyond the University in his tutoring of New York City Public School students through the America Reads/America Counts Program. Of course, none of
this distracted him from his research at the NYU Psychology Department and
New York State Psychiatric Institute. Now a graduate student working
towards his Masters in Public Health at NYU, Jonathan continues his mission
to encourage aspiring young doctors, conducting mentorship socials, study
groups, medical school visits, and test prep as a Graduate Assistant for the
Opportunity Programs.
