What is the Pre-Freshman Program? Do I have to participate?
Pre-Freshman Program is a summer enrichment program that is designed to help prepare you for your first semester at NYU. All admitted Opportunity Programs students are required to complete the summer program.
Is there an orientation before the Pre-Freshman Program begins?
Yes. Orientation is held at the end of May.
How long is the Pre-Freshman Program?
The program is six weeks long. Classes typically meet Monday-Friday.
What classes will I take as part of the Pre-Freshman Program?
The Summer Program consists of non-credit courses in writing, math, a liberal arts selection, and a pre-freshmen seminar. In addition, science and pre-health majors also take a chemistry class while business majors take an economics class. Tisch School of the Arts students also collaborate on the production of a video project.
Will the summer classes be on my transcript?
Yes. Your summer grades will appear on your transcript. However, they are not calculated into your grade point average (GPA).
Do I have to pay for the Pre-Freshman Program?
There is no charge for the academic classes in the Pre-Freshman Program.
What do I do if I already have plans for the summer?
As one of our incoming freshmen, you are required to attend the summer program. If you have extenuating circumstances, contact the Assistant Director of Academic Services.
Can I work while in the summer program?
It is not recommended that you work during this time.
